O tricampeão da Cheltenham Gold Cup Best Mate, com Paul Carberry demonstrou algum desconforto durante a Haldon Gold Cup de Exeter na terça-feira, (01/11) obrigando Carberry a desistir da prova. Ao chegar às boxes, Best Mate caiu e morreu, suspeitando-se que tenha sofrido um ataque cardíaco.
Um dos cavalos mais admirados e preferidos na Grã Bretanha, detentor de um palmarés invejável, o PSI de 10 anos Best Mate, venceu a Cheltenham Gold Gup em 2002, 2003 e 2004.
