World #1 takes its first win in Bordeaux
The Swiss Markus Fuchs is fond of the first big class at Bordeaux, the Prix du Palais des Congrès de Bordeaux, a 1m50 class against the clock.
In 2006, he won it with Granie as this Friday evening (01/02) he claimed the same class with the same mare now aged of 16.
Last year, he led this class with La Toya until Roger-Yves Bost claimed victory in the last minute.
This time, Markus took revenge: “I told to myself that I should take all the risks and with a bit of luck, that it may work. I saw Ludo Philippaerts and Michel Whitaker's courses and they did much better and shorter turns than I did but but I think that Granie is jumping much faster over the obstacles; she doesn’t waste any time in the air!” Ludo and Tauber van het Kapelhof had a fault and Michael Whitaker with Mozart des Hayettes was not quick enough: as Markus said, the bay stallion lost more time by jumping than Granie!
Tomorrow, the World #1 will ride the Rolex FEI World Cup qualifier with his other mare Nirnette, with the same determination because even at 52 years-old, the Swiss is always hungry for a first.
