TV Newsman Mike Sheehan broke the law and became the news

Sheehan was arrested Monday night for refusing to take a Breathalyzer test after driving into an NYPD horse, prosecutors said.

The Fox 5 news reporter was arraigned Tuesday and charged with reckless endangerment and operating a vehicle while intoxicated and impaired.

“What's the matter? I didn't hit nothing,” prosecutors quoted Sheehan as telling cops.

Through his lawyer, Sheehan, 60, denied the allegations. He claims the horse ran into him.

“It is Mr. Sheehan's position that the horse ran into his car,” lawyer Thomas Monaghan said. “He did nothing wrong. Mr. Sheehan is going to be vindicated.”

Sheehan faces up to a year in jail, if convicted. The Manhattan district attorney's office did not request bail.

The horse suffered cuts, bruises and scrapes to the hind thigh and knee.

A Fox 5 spokeswoman said “management is aware of the matter and is reviewing it.”

Cops arrested Sheehan at 10:30 p.m. after speeding and crashing his 2008 Mercury into a Mounted Unit horse on N. Moore Street, the criminal complaint said. The crash Sheehan's driver's side window, left one of the officers injured and cut the horse and sent scampering two blocks.

The complaint also says Sheehan's speech was slurred and his breath smelled of booze. Monaghan insisted the police report indicates that responding officers saw no signs of drinking and driving on Sheehan.

“That's why it is strange,” he said after the arraignment.

Sheehan's next court date is May 19.

Sheehan, a cop for 25 years, worked on several famed cases, including the Central Park jogger case, the Robert Chambers' preppie murder case, and the zodiac killer. As a reporter, he's been nominated for six Emmy awards, including his work on Sept. 11, 2001.
