La Varzea Polo Club, the only polo club in Portugal, situated in Herdade do Zambujeiro, Santo Estevao/Benavente and owned by entrepreneur, Tiago Gallego recently inaugurated a club in Pilar, Argentina.

Tiago Gallego, entrepreneur and owner of the well kown La Varzea Polo Club, has recently inaugurated a replica of this project in Pilar Argentina, which is the world capital of polo. This new project represents an investment of nearly 3 million Euros in a project spread over 35 hectares in the Argentine.

This new project in Argentina, which resembles, the polo club in Herdade do Zambujeiro in Santo Estevao/Benavente, will consolidate a cross border business in between Argentina and Portugal to assure the enduring growth of polo in Portugal.

The entrepreneur has acquired a further 1,000 hectares in which to establish a stud farm, with all the required equipment and conditions to breed horses.

The stud farm, together with all the facilities for playing polo and making polo horses will be one more impulse to establish polo in Portugal, now that the importation of polo horses from Argentina, ready for play will shortly be a reality.

La Varzea Polo Club is in Santo Estevao, Benavente. Directed by Tiago Gallego, a member of the national polo team and owner of some 300 hectares in Herdade do Zambujeiro, La Varzea Polo Club has three full sized match grounds, ( 280 x 150m ) one stick and ball ground, as well as a wide range of sporting and leisure facilities.

One of the club objectives is to organise national and international polo tournaments, to establish this sport in Portugal as well as including La Varzea Polo Club in the international polo circuit and to host major championships in Portugal.

As well as polo, La Varzea offers a wide range of sport facilities that include tennis, squash, water skiing, basketball, rugby, carriage driving, show jumping, volleyball and golf amongst others. Professional tuition in all these sports is also available.

The clubhouse is already functioning and includes a bar, restaurant with a capacity for 60 inside and a further 100 on the outside terrace, a discotheque, and games room, TV lounge, business centre, gymnasium with cardio fitness equipment, a SPA with saunas, Turkish baths, treatment rooms for massage and physiotherapy, and a beauty clinic. Outside there is a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi. The club has about 100 polo horses for hire together with all the equipment. There are also polo clinics given by professionals as well as riding classes and opportunities to hack out.
