Three day event-rider Irish Sasha Steward is thoroughly enjoying the Sunshine Tour dressage in Spain. She is riding a little 6 yr old stallion and also an old timer of 21 years of age in the small tour.
But she also owns Lecantos an 11-year-old 16hh Oldenburg gelding by Levantos I! Sasha is excited about the performances of Lecantos, the former mount of Polish dressagerider Katarzyna Milczarek Jasinka.
“We were lucky enough to find Lecantos or Liquorice last winter and we asked Carl Hester to ride him this year whilst I train on him”, Sasha comments, “in the first sunshine event he has won all three classes Inter II, Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special. And in the second Sunshine event this weekend he kept on winning! He is going so well and Carl is enjoying him! I am hopeful that they will go to the European Championships this autumn in Turin!”
The ten year old bay Oldenburger has a brilliant piaffe and passage. After Hester sold Escapado, it looks like this horse will bring him back on the scene again. Carl says riding him is a pleasure: “I never thought that after Escapado who is sold to Dutch Hans Peter Minderhoud, there could be another horse so willing and easy to ride”.
Carl Hester dominated the first of the three competitions that make up the Spanish Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, with five wins on two horses.
He won the intermediaire II (70.78%), Grand Prix (69.667%) and Gand Prix special (71%) with his new ride and team hope, Lecantos.
