54 Combinations participated to the Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. Only 5 riders succeeded to qualifiy for the jump-off. First to go, Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) with Parmala Douche made one fault, finally with the fastest time of the class. Guillaume Batillat's horse Nénuphar'Jac was a bit surprised by the double (17 points, 4th), letting David Quigley (IRL) realizing the first clear round. But the two last to start could do it faster. Reserve French national champion 2009, Olivier Guillon, tried to but ended up in making it (4 points, 4th). Last to go, Spanish female rider Pilar Cordon Muro rode the perfect tour, with her Holsteiner stallion Herald 3. Of course, she crossed the finish line faster than Quigley. That's the 3rd time a woman wins in the Grand Prix of Saint-Lô.
Manche Trophy (Class n°8 – 1m45): Shane Breen (IRL) at least!
The Irish rider Shane Breen accumulated no less than four 2nd places in the small and medium classes with the result that many gave him the nickname of « Poulidor ». But Shane kept on running after his first victory. Riding Dorada, a gelding issued from a « Selle Français » father (since it's Arlequin de Carel, a pure product of Normandy and son of the national stallion Rosire) and from an irish mother, daugther of the famous irish horse Clover Hill. The breeding interlude finished, Shane Breen succeeded in the second round which opposed the best 16 couples on the initial course. Quite discreet from the beginning of the show, the French rider Jérôme Hurel (second with Nickel de Presle) reached to go on the podium. He prevented the belgians Bruynseels and Vanderhasselt from realise the dual (3rd and 4th). In all, 7 couples have been able to do a double « without fault » in this round endowed of 7000€.
SORAPEL Trophy (Class n°7 – 1m30): Margaux Rocuet (FRA) comes from behind at the last minute
He thought that he had already winnen the class. But the Norman rider lost his chance at the very last second when Margaux Rocuet, the youngest rider of the show, crossed the line only 18 hundredth faster than him. This French junior rider, who is former European Children Champion, is Bruno Rocuet's daughter.
