Michel Hecart wins the opening competition of the CSI of A Coruña. The French athlete was able to obtain the Industrial Mostoles Trophy in 27,02 seconds.
The 20th edition of the International Show-Jumping of Casas Novas started this morning with the Industrial Mostoles
Trophy. The initial victory was for Miche Hecart, who riding Nokia de Brekka finished this two-phase competition in 27, 02 seconds.
The second position was for the Belgian Pieter Devos who rode Equipharma Tekila D in a clear round with only 27,53 seconds. The Belgian flag fluttered again on the podium as the third classified, Patrick Spits, has Devos’s same nationality. The binomial formed by Spits and Wrangler Van de Withoeve finished the course at a time mark of 27’61”.
The Portuguese Antonio Vozone was fourth with his horse Valdemar in 27, 70 seconds. Fifth position went for Marta Botanelli, who rode Porn Start in 27, 73 seconds.
“A FAST COMPETITION”
After winning the Industrial Mostoles Trophy, Michel Hecart focused on “the speed of this type of competitions”. The
French rider declared that “it’s necessary to obtain very good time marks in such Trophies, where the obstacles are
smaller”. The official height of the Industrial Mostoles Trophy is 1’35 metres.
“I’m very glad after winning this opening competition. For this Trophy I have used a horse really skilful at this kind of competitions with an inferior height. Nokia de Brekka is a very fast horse” remarked the French rider.
GUY WILLIAMS WINS THE AZKAR TROPHY
The British rider wan the greatest prize of this opening journey at a good time mark: 63,70seconds in an against the clock competition. The sportsman highlighted “the great speed of the competition” and the outstanding form of his horse.
The British rider Guy Williams was the final winner of the second competition of this inaugural journey of the International Show-Jumping in A Coruña. Thus, the athlete riding Torino Van de Middeljstede got the Azkar Trophy, the greatest prize of this journey. Only in 63,70 seconds the British was able to obtain the best result in a competition against the clock and without jump-off.
Second position went to the ensemble formed by Philippe Rozier and Randgraaf, who finished the course in 64,74 seconds. The American rider Peter Wylde and Sanctos Van Het Gravenhof obtained the third position in a clear round and only in 64,94 seconds. Fourth position was for the Belgian Pieter Devos, who had already obtained a position on the podium in the previous competition. Devos finished in 65,52 seconds on the back of Quillaja Van Sit Maarten . The Mexican rider Santiago LAmbre and his mount Quannan R., finished the course with a clear round in 65,77 seconds.
A VERY DEMANDING COMPETITION
The Azkar Trophy is especially complicated due to its obstacles (they are 1,50 meters high). It is a preparatory competition for the Great Telefónica Prize to be held on Saturday’s evening.
The winning rider, Guy Williams, remarked how difficult this competition is. “This is a preparatory competition for tomorrow, and it’s especiall demanding”, said the British rider whO added: “Moreover, as it is against the clock and without jump-off. It is necessary to ride as quick as possible”.
Williams tried to highlight the good form of his mount Torino Van de Middeljstede: “It has made an incredible performance, it is a very quick horse, and I would like to point out its magnificent jumps”.
Similarly, Williams declared that this is his first participation in the CSI of A Coruña, and in addition, he emphasized on the good state of the sports facilities for the International Show-Jumping in Arteixo.
WYLE WIN THE BIG CLASS IN A TIGHT JUMP-OFF
From the 48 riders of the last competition of the journey, only 11 got a clear round.
During the jump-off, the American sportsman got a spectacular time mark of 42,06 seconds, only three hundredths over the second placed.
The last competition of the opening day at Coruña was absolutely thrilling. The first day finished after the NH Hotels Trophy, where 48 riders participated in a course of 1, 45 metres high obstacles. The complexity of the Trophy lay in the fact that those riders who finished the course in a clear round would pass to the jump-off. From the 48 ensembles, only 11 had access to the final stage. The winner turned to be the Anerican Peter Wylde, who riding Lipton de L’othan obtained a marvellous time mark: 42, 06 seconds.
Nevertheless, the jump-off was especially tight. As a matter of fact, the second classified, the Brazilian Pedro Veniss
finished the course in 42,09 seconds. Venis used for this competition his mare Amaryliis. The German Daniel Deusser
–the favourite one according to the bets- finished the jump-off with a clear round in 42,79 seconds. Deusser, who was
riding Vonka A. decided not to be risky in the last part of the final course. Another specialist in fast competitions, the
Belgian Dirk Demeersman was fourth after riding Cicero Z Van Paemel in 49,58 seconds. The fifth classified was another
Belgian, Marc van Dijck who finished the course in a clear round in 49,60 seconds with his mare Valencia.
“THIS HORSE LOOKS LIKE A FERRARI”
The winner of the NH Hotels Trophy, Peter Wylde declared that he had won thanks to his horse’s great speed, Lipton
De L’Othan. “He is an exceptional horse, a superwinner”, said Wylde who continued saying: “He is so fast that,
sometimes, I have to stop him in the middle of the competition as his willingness may make us have a fault”. The rider
commented that he has had Lipton for five years, and in this period of time he has become “one of the stars” of his
stable. Appart from that, Wylde wanted to highlight the excellent state of the sports facilities of Casas Novas. “This is
a great Show-Jumping which is well organized, so it’s a pleasure to participate in a CSI like this”, said the American
who is looking forward to being successful in the next two journeys of the Show-Jumping.
