Markus Saurugg wins the CSI3* Opening with Zita!

No fewer than 86 top-class combinations went to the start line today in GLOCK’s CSI3* Opening show jumping event.

The course over 1.40 m, designed by Frank Rothenberger (GER), prompted riders to a lively preliminary canter at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER indoor tournament arena. They all aimed for the pace, but there was one who couldn’t be beaten.

Styrian Markus Saurugg proved that the still only eight-year-old Holsteiner mare Zita 94 (Stakkato x Carthago) had risen from being 'Queen of Young Horses' to become a magnificent CSI3* winner, gaining victory in 55.72 seconds. “She’s a very special horse and I offer my thanks to her breeders, the Kriegler family, for allowing me to ride her”, said a very happy Markus Saurugg at the winner’s interview.

Just as free of faults as Markus Saurugg but around one second slower was second-placed Wilm Vermeir (BEL) in the saddle on the nine-year-old Gentiane de la Pomme (0/56.80). Third place went to Hugo Simon, another Styrian. This evergreen guided C T, his eleven-year-old progeny of Casall, through the course in 57.72 seconds without faults.

Iris Murray (NÖ) with Qui Doo achieved 16th place (0/64.26), Hugo Simon with his second horse Freddy 7 made 19th place (0/65.35) and Vorarlberg’s Monika Niederländer completed the Austrians’ strong showing with Cornet 2 and 22nd place (0/68.09).

Bertram Allen (IRL) and Cheese W Z triumph in GLOCK’s Youngster Opening

'Youth rules' was the slogan in the opening show jumping event of CSIYH1* GLOCK’s Youngster Tour. Thirty-two riders had saddled their promising young seven and eight-year-old horses and faced the course over 1.30 m.
The youngest duo took the lead in the starting field. The 19 year old superstar Bertram Allen (IRL) let his seven-year-old Zangersheide stallion Cheese W Z (Chatman x Galoubet) gallop forward with consummate ease, caught the ideal distance at every jump and, with a time of 49.01 seconds, relegated his elder competitors to their places.

Even the winner of the preceding CS13* opening, Markus Saurugg (AUT/St), with eight-year-old Spirit 31 (Sir Shutterfly x Balou du Rouet), had to admit defeat (0/49.32). Pius Schwizer (SUI) and the impressively jumping eight-year-old Selle Francaise mare, Tina de l'Yserand, made third place in 50.09 seconds.

After a clear round, Gerfried Puck (AUT/St) was pleased with his eight-year-old KWPN grey horse Poker Face and sixth place. He was closely followed by the seven-year-old Campino (Canturo x Adlantus As), who was presented by Lower Austrian Stefanie Bistan without faults (0/51.88).

Styria-Express Gudrun Pirker delivers a red-white-red opening victory!
The International Show Jumping at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER has begun! Kicking off four days of equestrian sport today were the 19 riders in the CSI1* GLOCK’s Small Tour, and they set off at one hell of a pace. Seven of the duos who rode the course over 1.15 m had clear rounds, whilst the fastest time was achieved by a lady from Styria.
Gudrun Pirker left her fellow competitors behind on her always reliable mount Alpenspan Citadelle, finishing fault-free in 53.70 seconds and winning a well-deserved opening victory at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER.
“It’s always so lovely to be here. I owe my thanks to my horse and my husband, who always takes super care of both me and our animals “, commented Gudrun Pirker during her winner’s interview with presenter Dorian Steidl.
Thanks to the fast and, above all, fault-free rides by Carinthian Birgit Peintner on her 13-year-old gelding Gaspari (0/54.21) and Burgenland’s Bernhard Maier on his black stallion Perfect (0/55.82), the neighbouring pair of podium places also stayed firmly in Austrian hands.
Also winning places for Austria were Norbert Wiener (W) in the saddle on Feliciana v. Vliethof (0/66.96), Aglaia Bechmann (K) with Tortuga de Janeiro (0/72.37) and Carmen Buffa (K) with Wasper L (0/77.02) in fifth to seventh places, along with Silvana Florian (St) with Jake Sully (4/64.83), Katharina Schüttelkopf (K) with Lord Erhard (4/70.01), Bettina Bauer (NÖ) with Santiago van de Kapel (4/70.26) and Sarah Podmenik (St) with Coconut Z (7/88.37), who took ninth to twelfth places.
