Lea Michele fronts new PETA campaign

'Glee' actress urges New York City to stop horse-drawn carriage rides.

The 24-year-old, who plays Rachel Berry on the hit television series “Glee,” has once again stepped in front of the cameras for PETA to protest horse-drawn carriage rides in New York City.

“Imagine for a moment that you're forced to do hard physical labor all day, seven days a week — whether it's sweltering hot or freezing cold outside,” the committed vegan says. “At the end of the day, instead of relaxing on [an] easy chair or sleeping in a comfortable bed, you are locked in a tiny closet all night long.”

Back in September '09, Lea appeared in her first horse carriage campaign for PETA with the tagline “Buck Cruelty: Say No To Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides.” Late last year, she also guest-blogged on Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Life site on the topic.

”My biggest trouble these days are the poor horses in Central Park,” she wrote. “Living in New York City, I see them sadly standing on the sides of busy streets with their heads right in the ***** of the horse right in front of them! They walk in the rain, snow, and heat, pulling people all day long, rarely getting proper food, water or care.”
