The 2011 European Championships in show jumping take place from Wednesday, September 13 through Sunday, September 18 in Madrid, where Chef d'Equipe Rob Ehrens and his Dutch team will attempt the key task of securing a coveted “ticket” to the Olympic Games.
Ehrens has selected a strong team, including the nine-year-old KWPN-approved stallion VDL Groep Verdi (s.Quidam de Revel) with Maikel van der Vleuten, VDL Groep Utascha SFN (s.Lux) with Eric van der Vleuten, BMC Van Grunsven Simon (s.Mr.Blue) with Jeroen Dubbeldam, and VDL Bubalu (s.Baloubet du Rouet) with Jur Vrieling as the reserve combination.
Gerco Schröder will show Eurocommerce New Orleans or Eurocommerce London.
Many riders from countries other than the Netherlands will also show KWPN horses in these Championships, such as France's Kevin Staut with Silvana de Hus (s.Corland) and Sweden's Malin Baryard Johnsson and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson with H&M Tornesch 1042 (s.Lux) and Ninja la Silla (s.Guidam), respectively.
In addition, the following KWPN-recognized stallions will compete in the Spanish capital: Peppermill (s.Burggraaf) with the UK's John Whitaker, Vigo d'Arsouilles (s.Nabab de Reve) with Belgium's Philippe le Jeune and Bessemeind's Casino (s.Cash) with Norway's Morten Djupvik.
