The second edition of the Exquis World Dressage Masters shows was staged in the former Olympic Stadium of Munich has shown great sport with winners representing the leading dressage countries of the world Germany and The Netherlands.
Dutch 38 year old Sander Marijnissen took the win in the Moorland Grand Prix Special of the Exquis World Dressage Masters showing his grande Dutch-bred Moedwil (Goodwill x Beaujolais) in great form. His score was 71,500%. German Olympian Isabell Werth (39) did a great job showing her strong and talented Hannoverian Satchmo in the Freestyle to music.
The owner of Satchmo mrs Madeleine Winter-Schulze hurried and took the plane from the show jumping in Derby Hamburg to arrive in time in Munich to witness live her favourite pair Isabell and Satchmo.
“For me, Isabell and Satchmo combine the ultimate knowledge of riding with an artificial hand. I love their skills, their art and I love them as a person and as a horse”, Madeleine Winter-Schulze, Satchmo's owner said. Isabell took the win scoring 84,750%.
Germany's most victorious rider Isabell Werth praised the show in all detail. “From the weather to the refurbished footing, the complete show schedule including several highlights and shows, the huge prize money, the enthusiasm of the audience, I cannot think of any improvement. The only thing that still could improve is my little mistake in the two tempi changes”, she said happily. She admitted that three big mistakes for which she was penalized in the Freestyle at the World Cup Final Las Vegas were rare exceptions in the career of the 15-year-old Hannoverian gelding. The mistakes in Las Vegas, she said, resulted from rider errors. “I was not focused.” In Munich for the ecstatic Bavarian crowd she was!
Talk of the day
Sander Marijnissen could not stop talking about his experiences. Next to his Grand Prix Special win he also took the two intermediate classes home showing his youngster Sander. “I hardly can believe what has happened this weekend”, Sander expressed his feelings. “My Grand Prix-result was a personal record. And to be able to learn and be within the group of the best riders of the world, it's amazing. I even have the feeling that despite my age of 38 I'm still improving! I was able to concentrate on the one horse and the other within the shortest time and even peak! Moedwil impresses the audience by his relaxation and easiness in his performance. German coach Holger Schmezer standing next to my wife Karina was so happy for my result that he immediately embraced her to share his compliments.”
Sander Marijnissen was the talk of the day, explaining that his father used to work as a postman and now helps him building up his own riding stable and meanwhile building up an international dressage career. The wins were rewarded with EUR 10.000 for Grand Prix Special (30.000 total) and EUR 20.000 for the Freestyle (60.000 total).
Dressage wins
Chair of the judges Katrina Wüst had the nicest summary of the dressage activities in Munich. “We had great sport, celebrating a German and Dutch win in unity after having enjoyed great performances. Each new rider improved the former good riding pair, which made the challenge even more inspiring. We have witnessed both experienced champions like Satchmo and Max, next to new coming promising athletes like Moedwil, Augustin and Herzruf's Erbe”, Katrina Wüst expressed her feelings. “But by far the most I was impressed by the way the two leading countries in dressage Germany and The Netherlands were harmonious working together in Germany with the Dutch initiator Exquis.
History
The inaugural EUR100.000 Moorland Exquis World Dressage Masters in Wellington Florida at the end of January was won by Anky van Grunsven showing IPS Painted Black.
The third edition of Exquis World Dressage Masters will take place in Cannes June 11-13.
