Guy Williams wins the Land Rover Grand Prix in Bordeaux (VIDEO)

The 2014 Jumping International de Bordeaux finished with an English victory just like the day before in the World Cup, and smashed the French audience’s hopes to see one of their own riders take home the Grand Prix.

This time all hopes were set on Pénélope Leprévost with Nice Stéphanie (already more of a regular on this level), who both were ahead of Ludger Beerbaum. This joy (for the rider and the audience) was short lived as British Guy Williams, knew how to perfectly dispose of his horse’s strength throughout the days in Bordeaux: “Zaire had a good week, it’s a horse that stays calm and won because of self-assurance. He is extremely respectful and when he jumps well in a smaller competition like the one he won yesterday (the Prix Foire Internationale de Bordeaux, a 1,45m competition, NDLR), he gains confidence and performs better in a bigger class like today.
Well, when I saw all those fast clear rounds in the jump-off, I told myself that it was not going to be easy. To win a Grand Prix in this situation, in Bordeaux, you need a certain amount of luck, which I had today.”
