Every Year more than 50,000 people visit the National Stallion Show presented by Danish Warmblood in Herning where focus is on the actual assesment of the stallions. Every year the large collection of young stallions attracts the attention from both the spectators as well as the media. This is the place where future stars are found^.
We are taking a closer look at the collection of young stallions that will be presented before the judges and spectators at the upcoming stallion licensing in Herning. So far, the collection this year consists of 57 colts; 14 jumping prospects and 43 dressage prospects. In quantity it is fewer stallions than in the past few years but the quality may appear even better.
35 of the stallions are bred in Denmark, 14 in Germany, four in the Netherlands, two in Sweden and one in Norway. Thus, many Danish stallion keepers still import individuals from abroad. 41 stallions are selected at the Danish Warmblood pre-selections, while the remaining 16 come directly from foreign licensings, where they have been approved for breeding and thus have direct access to the Danish licensing.
THE TWO CHAMPION COLT FOALS FROM 2011 ARE IN THE LOT
The 14 jumping stallions represent 11 different sires, and Favorit Ask accounts for as many as four offspring. One of the major foundation stallions, French Quidam de Revel is among the sires in the collection of jumping stallions, which also includes the best jumping colt foal of 2011, Canada SEM by Ci Ci Senjor Ask and the gold medal mare Chelsea SEM (bred by Esben Pedersen, Aalestrup). Among the promising colts we find Ludwig Enggaard by Come Back II/Limelight (bred by Hanne and Jens Aage Hansen, Brovst), who is a full brother to several highly graded horses and the international jumping horse Frida, who has represented Mexico at the 2008 Olympics.
In the collection of dressage stallions sires such as Ampere, Blue Hors Don Romantic, San Amour and Sunny-Boy each have two sons selected for Herning, whilst three stallions stand out with more offspring. They are Tailormade Temptation with four sons, and Blue Hors Zack and Fürstenball each with five sons. For several years Tailormade Temptation and Blue Hors Zack have been the most frequented stallions in Danish breeding and their offspring have had tremendous success. The slightly younger Fürstenball displays an equally positive trend in the results of his first crop.
The best dressage colt of 2011, Ellely’s Tornado by Tailormade Temptation/Flemmingh (bred by Birgith Thomasen, Randers) is among the young stallions selected for the licensing in Herning. The famous Pari dam line is represented by a son of Blue Hors Zack out of a half-sister to Digby bred by HRH Princess Benedikte in Germany. Among several foals purchased on Danish Warmblood’s elite foal auction in 2011 is Zinfandel Grønvang by Blue Hors Zack and out of the gold medal mare Hertza Grønvang by Gribaldi bred by Stud Grønvang and owned by JJ Horses in Norway.
