Asian Games: Individual Gold for Korean Hwang Young Shik

The 16th Asian Games are held at the Guangzhou Equestrian Stadium in China on 17 November 2010. In the individual dressage competition the Korean Hwang Young Shik won the gold medal riding his mount Laura. The 20-year-old Hwang won the Intermediaire I (71.368%) and Inter I Kur to Music (74.900%) and was the only rider to score above 70% in both individual rounds.

The silver and bronze medal went to two Malaysian riders. Quzandria Nur Mahamad Fathil and her brother Qabil Ambak Mahamad Fathil are both trained by Danish Olympian Andreas Helgstrand. Quzandria won the silver medal on her chestnut Danish warmblood gelding Handsome whereas her brother achieved bronze on the Dutch warmblood stallion Wup.

For the second time at the Asian Games, South Korea won team gold achieving 65.759 points. In the end the Korean team were 0.166 percentage points ahead of the Chinese team. Malaysia ranked third winning bronze with 65.111% while Japan missed a podium spot by finishing on 64.759%.

The 9-year-old Handsome by Hertug / Schwedengruss and his Malaysian rider Quzandria Nur won this morning's individual silver medal in Asian Games.

Handsome was as a young horse ridden by pro-rider Holger Sørensen and was just before the sale ridden and competed by Danish Jim Rasmussen.

Quzandria Nur was after Monday's first part at third place behind her brother Qabil Mahamad Fathil with the leased Dutch stallion Wup.

The brother and sister swapped places in the freestyle and Quzandria Nur and Handsome won the silver medal with a total of 71.558% and Qabil and Wup finished with 71.195% and won the bronze medal.

The freestyle music for both Quzandria and Qabil is produced by the Dutch musician Joost Peters, in particular also is the man behind the freestyle of Edward Gal and Totilas.
