Algarve Vilamoura Classic: Winter Series Cancelled
The five weeks of international competitions initially scheduled for this winter and early spring as part of the Algarve Vilamoura Classic will ultimately not take place. In detail, three CSI 3*, 1* and Young Horse events were due to run from February 24 to March 15, followed by a CSI 4* (along with 1* and Young Horse classes) and a CSI 5* (along with 3* and Young Horse classes) during the final two weeks of March.
Unfortunately, due to various adverse circunstances, the ownership group of the Vilamoura Equestrian Centre has not been able to fully finalize and complete the necessary administrative procedures and works in time to meet the conditions for opening to the public, as initially scheduled for 24 February.
GRANDPRIX Events is therefore forced to cancel the international competitions that were due to take place between 24 February and 29 March 2026.
GRANDPRIX deeply regrets this situation, at a time when significant investments are beeing made to provide Vilamoura and Portugal with a world-class competition venue.
“Despite the current situation, the Arrow Global and GRANDPRIX teams continue to work hard and invest heavily in the completion of the renovation of the Vilamoura equestrian facilities. Arrow Global’s commitment represents a tremendous opportunity for our sport, as well as for the entire international equestrian community and economic stakeholders in the Vilamoura and Algarve region, highlighting the great relevance and positive potential of this project for all involved. I would like to offer my sincere apologies to the riders, owners, partners, officials, service providers and everyone involved in the organisation who placed their trust in us and had planned to be in Vilamoura this winter. The project continues and will soon be completed, and we will now focus all our energy on opening the site for the autumn tour,” emphasised Vincent Goehrs, President of GRANDPRIX.
