World Horse Riding Stars Return to Estoril
Estoril Coast Tourism promotes the CSI 5 Stars, one of the Global Champions Tour Rounds, an international horse riding competition which visits Estoril for the second time. This year, the prize money goes up to 400 thousand Euros, from which 300 thousand are estimated only to the Grand Prix that takes place on the evening of July 21.
Forty riders, representing 15 nations, will exhibit their talent at the only International Jump Contest rated with 5 stars in our country, and that will be held at Hippodrome Manuel Possolo, between the 19th and 21st July.
Athina Onassis, Godmother of the Global Champions Tour, will be present at this high level event together with riders from 22 countries, such as Jessica Kurten (Ireland), who is the current vice-champion of the world, and Rodrigo Pessoa (Brazil), Olympic Champion and World Champion, under the Track Supervision of Frank Rothenberg (Germany), who also assumes the Supervision of the World Championship.
Created by the Dutch Jan Tops, Olympic Gold Medallist in 1992 at Barcelona, the Global Champions Tour is one of the most important investments of all times concerning the creation of new opportunities to Equestrian Sports, through gathering efforts of several entities, including organizers and sponsors. Jan Tops intends to raise the professional equestrian competitions to a level of recognition similar to golf, sailing, tennis and motor sports.
This contest gathers eight of the most known world horse riding competitions: besides Estoril, Palm Beach/Wellington (USA), Cannes (France), Monte Carlo (Monaco), Valkenswaard (Netherlands), São Paulo (Brasil), Arezzo (Italy) and Athens (Greece).
