Twomey claims the Rolex Grand Prix in Zurique

Irish Billy Twomey romped home victorious at Zurich's five-star show in Switzerland tonight (Friday), notching up his second Grand Prix win in two weeks aboard Sue Davies's mare 'Tinka's Serenade'.

Picking up 35,000 euro for his first place, to add to the 70,000 euro he won on the same mare in Basel 12 days ago, Twomey's nearest challenge in the six horse jump-off came from Pius Schwizer, but the Swiss rider stopped the clock five hundredths of a second slower than the Irishman.

A delighted Twomey said tonight: “It was an amazing performance from the mare. It was a quite difficult course for the first day of the show, and the fact that only six got through to the jump-off from 42 starters confirmed that. I was early to go and decided to put it up to them, and in the end none of the others could catch me. I'm really happy with the result.”

Twomey, who is currently ranked seventh in the world, will also compete in Sunday's World Cup Mercedes Classic at the Swiss venue, where he is joined by fellow Irish riders Jessica Kürten, Denis Lynch and Dermott Lennon.
