The World Arabian Horse Championship in Paris

The World Arabian Horse Championship, which is held every year as part of the Paris Horse Show, has become an institution and a major world equestrian event. It brings together the finest Arabian horses, presented by the greatest nations renowned for the excellence of their breeding programmes. The 32nd championship will take place from 7 to 9 December 2012, at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre.

For 2012, the Championship is causing a stir by introducing a new qualifying class for Yearlings and by creating the first ever Platinum Medal World Champion supreme title.

The 32nd World Arabian Horse Championship

Showcased in Hall 5b’s Grand Arena, which is used to host the main international competitions that make up the Paris Horse Show, the World Arabian Horse Championship, held under the High Patronage of his Majesty Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, pits the finest male and female Arabian purebred specimens against one another.

This year, nearly 150 horses will take part in the world's greatest competition of beauty and elegance under the expert gaze of the most accomplished international judges. They will score the horses according to their type, head and neck, topline, stand and gait.

In 2011, 20 of the world's greatest nations known for their expertise in breeding Arabian purebreds were represented at the event, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel, the US, Poland, Sweden, the UK, Italy, and – of course – France.

The World Arabian Horse Championship is organised by the National Centre for Agricultural Exhibitions and Competitions (CENECA) and the Paris Horse Show. It is recognised by the ECAHO, to which it is affiliated.

A new qualifying class: Yearlings

A Yearling is a male or female horse that its first year. For the first time in Paris, horses born in 2011 will have their own dedicated class. This way, ratings will be fairer – given the differences that there can be between a one-year-old horse (Yearling) and a two-year-old or three-year-old Junior horse.

These horses will join the Championship's other initial classes: Junior Female (2 and 3 years old); Senior Female (4 years old and over); Junior Male (2 and 3 years old) and Senior Male (4 years old and over).

A new world title: the Platinum medal

The World Arabian Horse Championship will also be awarding, for the first time ever, the Platinum medal World Champion supreme title.

This title can only be awarded to Senior Male and Senior Female horses that have already been awarded the title of Gold Medal Senior World Champion at a previous World Championship.

More specifically, a Senior horse that has already obtained the highest score in the Championship and which holds a former Gold Medal World Champion/World Champion title will be awarded this prestigious and supreme Platinum medal World Champion title.

The horses ranked after the Platinum Medal World Champion will therefore be – in descending order – as follows: World Champion – Gold medal, followed by World Champion – Silver medal and then World Champion – Bronze medal.
