Tanzmusik becomes this years Trakehner Champion Mare

The third day of the 51st Trakehner Stallion Market revolved around licensing and the selection of this year's champion mare.

The team of mares on show in the Holstenhalle were well worth seeing, and lit up the eyes not only of the judging panel. Helmut Mayer (Trakehner IG Austria), Matthias Werner (Trakehner Stuteneintragungskommission) and Martin Spoo, Breeding Director of the Rheinischen Pferdestammbuch, however, had the unenviable task of choosing between seven specially selected Trakehner mares.

“Prima inter pares“, this year's champion mare was Tanzmusik, who already boasts the coveted title of champion mare for the Schleswig-Holstein/ Hamburg breeding region. The state premium mare, emphasised Martin Spoo in his role as commentator, is “a truly special horse and the type of champion one doesn't see all the time – she has all the attributes of an exceptional mare”.

The mare comes from Trakehner stallion Herzruf out of Tanzsport by Grafenstolz. She is bred and owned by the Hessische Hausstiftung Panker. Tanzsport achieved a first-class mare performance test and embodies the Trakehner traits of nobility and athleticism. Prince Heinrich Donatus von Hessen, director of the Hessische Hausstiftung, looked on proudly as the brown Trakehner mare proved herself to be a true lady, even during the grand presentation ceremony.

The second reserve champion was state premium mare Alte Zeit by Le Rouge out of Alte Art by Kasparow. “A noble horse and a mare whose quality of movement is in a league of its own,” said Spoo. The dark brown, elegant beauty is bred and owned by the Sächsische Gestütsverwaltung in Graditz.

The committee selected two reserve champion mares. Both were remarkable in their elegance, character and quality of movement. Kasandra by Axis out of Karlotta by Lehndorff's is owned and bred by Herbert-Stefan Schümann, Kirchhain, while Schnessprinzessin by Elfado out of Schneeflocke VI by Michelangelo calls Gestüt Tasdorf home. Her breeder is Udo Koch, Tasdorf. The excellent team of mares received rapturous applause during the lap of honour.

The decisions of the licensing committee at the Trakehner Stallion Market were awaited with baited breath. In total, 12 of the 42 stallions presented at the market were awarded the coveted title of “licensed”, while four stallions were earmarked for prizes. The outcome of this decision will be eagerly awaited, and all will become clear on Sunday from 10.00am in Holstenhalle I…

Outstanding auction

The Trakehner Verband achieved a good result at the auction on Saturday afternoon. Ten mare and stallion foals were sold for a total of 99,700 euros.

The top price of 30,000 euros was achieved by son of Millenium, Homeyer, out of a Hofrat mother. The stallion foal, born in May and bred and owned by Ilsemarie Peters (Möhne), was sold for 30,000 euros to a buyer from Lower Saxony. The average price recorded was 9,970 euros.

Ten Trakehner mares were sold at auction in the Holstenhallen for a total of 139,000 euros. 27,000 euros was the top price and it was achieved by state premium mare Inside by Krokant-Connery, bred by Andrea Ritter (Schwanewede) and owned by Frank Scharffetter (Schwanewede). Inside will now take up residence in a stable in Bavaria. Interested buyers paid an average of 13,900 euros for a Trakehner mare.

The most expensive riding horse in the auction was Standing O' Vation by Imperio out of Seeconda by Consul, owned and bred by Sabine Oberdieck (Wietzendorf), who went for an impressive 100,000 euros. And stallion Imperio also produced the second most expensive horse at auction: Hannah.

The three-year-old mare out of Herzlicht II by Münchhausen is owned and bred by Kristine Gehrmann-Arp (Brodersdorf) and delighted customers from Hamburg, who now have the honour of calling the chestnut mare their own.

Three-year-old black mare Cera by Axis-Spirding, owned and bred by Stefan Gerber (Brumby), will be leaving the continent to take up residence in the stables of her new owners in the USA, while four-year-old mare Polarlicht by Irdenkreis-Schönbrunn – bred and owned by Trakehner Gestüt Krotenbach (Altenhof) – found a new owner from Singapore. Trakehner horses are highly desired right across the world.
