Star Parade in the Doha GCT

This year the Global Champions Tour (GCT) will have a flying start with a confirmation of 30 out of the world´s best 35 riders to participate in the GCT opening show in Doha, Qatar.

The world´s best riders will gather in the Gulf State to compete at the world´s highest donated showjumping event. Among them are Jessica Kürten
(IRL), Gerco Schröder (NED), Ludger Beerbaum (GER), his sister-in-law and
current European Champion Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum (GER), and current
World Champion Jos Lansink (BEL).

The GCT will start its third season in April as an official series with recognition of the largest equestrian sport organization, the FEI.

Beginning of February, the GCT started sending out the invitations according to the Rolex Rankings List number 85, and before the end of the week there had been a tremendous positive response.
“We can truly say that we have the strongest field of participants on start
in Doha and we believe it will be a magnificent show, especially since it
is the first of eight!” so says Jan Tops, president of the Global Champions
Tour.

Of the 35 highest ranked riders of the Rolex Rankings list, there were only
five cancellations:
Beezie Madden (8, USA), Mclain Ward (11, USA), Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (16,
SWE), Richard Spooner (17, USA), and Lauren Hough (33, USA). The top 30
will bring their best horses, 87 in total, which will make this the greatest transport of jumping horses in one flight. All horses will fly on a Boeing 747 from Schiphol Airport non-stop to Doha Airport on Monday 7 April next. The return flight will be on 13 April 2008.

From 10 to 12 April, the visitors of the CSI***** in Doha (QAT) are ensured
of a spectacle from the world´s best riders. After Doha, the GCT will jump
to Hamburg (GER), Cannes (FRA), Monte-Carlo (MON), Estoril (POR), Valkenswaard (NED), Arezzo (ITA), and São Paulo (BRA).

The final in October will take place in São Paulo, where the prize money is
€ 1.9 million, the highest amount of any equestrian show in 2008.
