Patrik Kittel's bronze partner from Rotterdam 2011 Watermill Scandic H.B.C is injured and withdrawn – Toy Story is already on the lorry on the way to Herning
Swedish Anchorman and bronze medallist Patrik Kittel had a good first warm-up in Herning, testing the arena this morning and was thoroughly pleased with his stallion Scandic.
Just a few hours later the scene was totally changed – while Scandic was moved for grooming to another stall his team noticed that Scandic was not sound on his right front leg.
Since the discovery the horse has been checked by Swedish team vet Jonas Tornell and the FEI treating veterinary in Herning, they have performed ultra-sound scanning and discovered a small bleeding on the carpal channel. It is not a serious injury but the horse would not have a chance to be sound until tomorrow mornings vet check starting in the early morning nation by nation.
Chef d'equipe Bo Jenå was present in the stable when the injury was discovered.
– I immediately thought about Toy Story as our reserve and the decision was taken to transport him from Germany as soon as possible. The lorry drive is about six to seven hours up from Germany to Herning and Toy Story will be here in time for the vet check. Patrik took the situation professionally, these things happen with horses, there is never any guarantee but now he needs to rethink his strategy on how to work with Toy Story.
