Romanov’s Rhapsody – freestyle premiere at 2013 European Dressage Championships in Herning

Inspired by the heroic characters in antiquity, the new musical freestyle for GLOCK’s Romanov is tailored to the impressive 13-year-old stallion’s personality. He will dance to the music with GLOCK rider Hans Peter Minderhoud for the first time at the European Dressage Championships in Herning (DEN).

None other than Joost Peters (NED) composed the new musical freestyle for GLOCK rider Hans Peter Minderhoud and GLOCK’s Romanov.

The musician and composer from the Netherlands has long specialised in freestyles and has already composed over 100 unique pieces for national and international riders. To his music, many fine dressage horses have danced their way to championship medals. The most famous of them is surely Totilas. Ridden by Edward Gal, he had the world in raptures over Joost Peters’ composition “Totally Totilas”. GLOCK rider Edward Gal’s new star, GLOCK’s Undercover, has also won over audiences’ hearts for the past year with “Secretum Revelatum”, another piece of music written by Joost Peters.

Now GLOCK’s Romanov has got his own personal music, Romanov’s Rhapsody, which Joost Peters sees as a musical interpretation of the famous sport and breeding stallion. “Romanov’s Rhapsody is an epic composition inspired by the heroic leaders of antiquity,” explains composer Joost Peters. He spent three weeks writing and arranging the music before having the recording produced using all the technology that goes into Hollywood productions.

The entire composition is tailored to the movements performed by GLOCK’s Romanov. Each instrument plays its own very special role. The very powerful sound of this musical freestyle embodies the strong presence that GLOCK’s Romanov has by nature, while the music for the walk symbolises his gentleness. Other highlights of the new Romanov’s Rhapsody composition include the dominant violin staccato accompanying the flying changes, the strong rhythmic bass for the wonderful passage and the angel-like voices during the piaffe.
