Rob Hoekstra takes the reins of Britain’s show jumping team

Dutch-born rider-coach Rob Hoekstra is the new manager of Britain’s show jumping team, replacing Derek Ricketts who was sacked after Britain’s relegation from the nations cup superleague.

Hoekstra took British nationality and rode on nations cups teams in the 1980s and 1990s. He is currently training riders competing in Spain on the winter “sunshine tour” circuit.

Hoekstra said: “I am looking forward to what will certainly be a challenge, but it also presents a huge opportunity. My first task is to meet with all the riders and ensure they are focused on developing plans through to 2012.”

“Rob’s appointment is a fresh start for everyone,” said Clare Whitaker, chairman of British Showjumping’s performance development committee. “I hope that everyone will pull together under his leadership.”
