In Friday's Grand Prix Anky van Grunsven came out on top with IPS Painted Black, with Jan Brink and Briar as runner up and Bernadette Pujals and Vincent in third place. Anky was very happy as the score of 75% she had never reached before showing her stallion IPS Painted Black. The indoor season could not have had a better start, she said happily.
However, luck turned in the second day, when she fell of during the prize giving ceremony on Saturday after having finished in runner up position in the Grand Prix Special, when her stallion IPS Painted Black suddenly gave a buck. Anky hurt her leg and went to hospital. Even though fortunately nothing was broken, Anky decided to withdraw from showing IPS Krack C in the Freestyle. She did however start Nelson in the Intermediate I in the morning and as able to win the class.
MEXICAN PUJALS WINS SPECIAL
In the Grand Prix Special Flyinge a new name saw the top of the podium. Mexican rider Bernadette Pujals took first prize with 15-year old stallion Vincent (sired by Weltmeyer x Absatz). Bernadette Pujals lives in Mexico but commutes to Germany and trainer Johnny Hilberath on a regular basis. Dressage sport is still a very little sport in Mexico.
Bernadette Pujals is one of five riders at Grand Prix-level in the country. The second Flyinge International Dressage Show again spotted a field with competitors from twelve different nations this year and wins were scored by three different nationalities, Dutch, Mexican and Swedish.
GOOD FORM BRIAR BRINGS FREESTYLE WIN
Swedish star Jan Brink and his stallion Briar won the Grand Prix Freestyle on Sunday with 77,10 percent, ahead of compatriot Louise Nathhorst and Guinness scoring 74,00.
Jan Brink admitted he had a few mistakes in the freestyle programme but all in all he was pleased with the form Briar is showing for the indoor season. He rode to the same music as he used at the Europeans in La Mandria, but revealed that there is a new musical programme on the way. This will be finished before the Olympics at the latest.
