French Connection and Swiss Triumph (video)

The car was made in France, the rider too, it was only the horse that came from the Netherlands: For the second consecutive year, the Citroen Partner Leipzig Prize went to France – this time to former European Champion Kevin Staut with Silvana. The 33 year-old show-jumper swept through the hall in the metallic grey Citroen five-door during the presentation ceremony. Beforehand, Swiss rider Pius Schwizer secured the J.J. Darboven Prize, which was taking place for the very first time.

And it was only back in January 2013 that Staut's partner Penelope Leprevost managed to bag the prize and the car, and now Staut is following in her footsteps. “I did get a feeling it could really happen, and Silvana played her part brilliantly,” said the winner, “but there were still some riders that could have beaten me. Marco was very kind to me today…” Marco is German show-jumper Marco Kutscher, who secured second place with Cornet's Cristallo, just as he did in 2013. Both riders are hoping to compete in the Longines FEI World Cup presented by Sparkasse, Leipzig Grand Prix – Sparkassen Cup with exactly these horses – Silvana and Cornet`s Cristallo – on Sunday.

For a total of ten riders, the Citroen Partner Leipzig Prize was the “ticket” to take part in the World Cup test on Sunday, since exactly ten starting places were up for grabs in this qualification round for the World Cup test. Both the German competitors, Jan Sprehe (Germany), who took 18th place with Savoy, and Jan Wernke (Germany), who came 19th with Queen Mary, can be pleased with their performances. In total, 18 riders battled it out for the ten places, among them current European Champion Roger Yves Bost (France) and his predecessor (EC 2011) Rolf-Göran Bengtsson from Sweden. Both riders will be competing on Sunday in the World Cup at PARTNER PFERD.

Switzerland meets Darboven
An “improvement in relations between Germany and Switzerland” was predicted by Pius Schwizer and he certainly played his own part in that to the full. The top Swiss show-jumper won the J.J. Darboven Prize in Leipzig, which was taking place for the first time at PARTNER PFERD, and afterwards chatted with great pleasure to Albert Darboven about horses, coffee, alpine country, sport, Hamburg and Leipzig…
The J.J. Darboven company, resident in Hamburg, is the new co-sponsor of the international World Cup tournament in Leipzig. 59 competitors battled it out in this classic, international test, endowed with 17,500 euros. Pius Schwizer won with Rafale des Forets, a French horse. Albert Darboven, for whom equestrian sport has been in the blood ever since childhood, is himself a thoroughbred breeder. The involvement of J.J. Darboven in PARTNER PFERD, as well as in three other big events, links the global company inextricably to the passion of its Hamburg director. The top-placing German competitor in this test was 19 year-old Maurice Tebbel from Emsbüren with nine-year-old gelding Akku.
