Florence Forneron Passes Away

Trainer Florence Forneron tragically passed away in a Marseille hospital last night following a fall at the Cabriès training centre on Tuesday morning.

According to partner Laurent de la Rosa, the horse she was riding jigged suddenly, throwing Forneron violently to the ground. She was airlifted to hospital but never regained consciousness and subsequently died from her injuries.

Forneron, who recently celebrated her 45th birthday, began her racing career later than most when brought into the game by Arnaud Mossé, father of jockey Gérald, at the age of twenty.

After periods with trainers Jean-Paul Gallorini, Guillaume Macaire and Christian Scandella, Forneron took out her training licence in 1997 along with partner Laurent de la Rosa.

She experienced early success with high-class jumpers Vic Toto and Ladykish, with whom she won six group races, and was the trainer of three-time winner on the flat Corseurasien. She had thirty-three horses in training.

She and partner Laurent de la Rosa have a daughter, Iris.
