Felipe Ramos repeats victory in the Torre del Marqués Grand Prix

The winner of last year’s event repeats his triumph at the most important class of the International Show-Jumping Competition of Monroyo (Teruel).

This coveted Grand Prix, with 40,000 euros in prize money, was the final event of the Torre del Marqués International Show-Jumping Competition (CSI3*), held this past weekend in the city of Monroyo in Spain’s Turuel region. Thousands of spectators watched the crowning event of the competition, held on Sunday afternoon, which featured an entertaining second round, in which last year’s winner, Felipe Ramos Guinato of Brazil, prevailed again.

Of the Twenty-six horse and rider teams taking part in the Moët & Chandon Torre del Marqués International Show-Jumping Competition, only nine entrants were able to finish the first round without a fault. These nine, plus Armando Trapote, the best of the contestants with “four faults”, made up the riding order for the second round. Aldrick Cheronnet of France, riding Valentino, was the first rider to complete another “clear round” in the second course, finishing in a pace-setting time of 48.54 seconds. Following was fellow countryman Guy Jonqueres D’Oriola, on Goldstar 26, who passed Cheronnet’s time, but then the Brazilian Felipe Ramos Guinato, on Yorin, shattered the clock with a time of 45.53. The last team riding, Carl Curtis and Panacea, completed a “double clear round” and nearly won the event, but had to settle for second place.

Joining Guinato in the Moët & Chandon Torre del Marqués Grand Prix Trophy lap of honour was Carl Curtis (2º) of Great Britain, Guy Jonqueres D’Oriola (3º) and Aldrick Cheronnet (4º) both of France and Luciano Segovia (5º) of Argentina, who collected four faults with Indien D’Utah. All riders were congratulated by Mariano García Montes, President of the Organizing Committee.
