Dubai launches the Maktoum Challenge

The brainchild of international show jumper HRH Princess Haya who is married to HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, will host the Arab League World Cup Qualifier in the three matinee performances, whilst the International Section is reserved for the evening floodlit sessions.

Located adjacent to the Dubai Racetrack, the show is being organised by HorsePower (part of the HPower Group). After his success in Las Vegas and other top show jumping competitions, the footing will be newly laid by Martin Collins footing.

The very best of international show jumping will be interspersed with displays of medieval jousting and Cossacks. The climax to each of the three evenings will be a production special … The Heroes of the Horse World … featuring World and European Champions past and present from the seven** disciplines of equestrian sport’s governing body, the FEI.

Although January may be cold in many parts of the world, the show, which will be held outside, will enjoy dry, sunny temperatures of around 32° and is held just 15 minutes from Dubai’s International Airport.

The show will be managed on-site by Stephen Renouard, who has joined the HPower Group from Grandstand Media, where he was responsible for the operational aspects of the Horse of The Year Show and was directly responsible for that show’s move to the NEC in 2001. The 43 year old, International Show Jumping Course Designer from Buckingham will also be responsible for the operational aspects of Royal Windsor and a number of other shows in the HPower portfolio.

The show will culminate in the Maktoum Grand Prix, which has a prize purse of $760,000. Not surprisingly, the World’s leading riders seem quite happy to compete for the magnificent prize fund, combined with an indulgent and well earned rest in the world class tourist facilities that Dubai has to offer.
