Crocus Graverie, the only horse to have won the Grand Prix de La Baule twice, will be saying goodbye to the crowds at this year's event at the Francois Andre stadium.
The 17-year-old liver chestnut stallion, who has been ridden by Gilles de Balanda since he was a six-year-old, was a double winner in 1999 and 2005. Among his other achievements is a world team champion title in 2002 at Jerez.
Just before the Derby class on Saturday, May 12, Crocus Graverie and de Balanda will do a final lap of honour in front of the public who gave him such a moving ovation for his second Grand Prix victory.
Owned by the Pollet's, he will then retire to stand full-time at the Ble's stud in the Vosges region of France.
