Count down to Jumping Verona Rolex Fei World Cup™

“The Italian heat of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ for me, is a not to be missed during the winter season.

Jumping Verona is one of the best appointments in the international indoor calendar.”

This is the opinion of Swedish rider Rolf Goran Bengtsson, recently crowned European show jumping champion in Spain, who is a regular guest of Jumping Verona and once again, as he declared immediately after winning his well-deserved gold medal, he will take the field at Italy’s premier indoor show.

Last year, he missed victory in the Rolex Grand Prix by a whisker: the first three riders in the ranking (all with double clear rounds) were separated by a mere thirty-two hundredths of a second. First: Jeroen Dubbeldam (BMC Van Grunsven Simon, 35.61). Second: Meredith Beerbaum (Shutterfly, 35.67). Third: Rolf Goran Bengtsson (Casall La Silla, 35.93).

Jumping Verona 2011 is scheduled for 3-6th November as part of the famous Fieracavalli Horse Festival. “As well as the European Champion from Sweden, we are already sure that Kevin Staut, Ludger Beerbaum, Edwina Alexander and Simon Delestre will be attending,” said Eleonora Ottaviani, show director. “The regulations of the Rolex FEI World Cup mean automatic invitations for the first ten riders in the Rolex FEI Ranking List and there is an excellent chance that Verona will see them all, except for Markus Ehning, who has commitments with his sponsors that means he never missed the Munich competition scheduled at the same time as the Verona event. But Germany has five places available and team manager Otto Becker assured me that he will field the best riders.”

This will be the eleventh edition of Jumping Verona which last November celebrated its tenth anniversary with a birthday ceremony. The ten candles on the cake were blown out by the winner of the Grand Prix at the end of a truly memorable day of sport in a ring characterised as ever, by crowded grandstands.

The name of Dutch rider Jeroen Dubbledam, Olympic champion in Sydney 2000, joined the Roll of Honour for the competition together with the other splendid protagonists of previous Grand Prix: Stanny Van Paesschen (Belgium 2001), Rodrigo Pessoa (Brazil 2002), Lars Nieberg (Germany 2003), Toni Hassmann (Germany 2004), Albert Zoer (Holland 2005 & 2007), Gerco Schroeder (Holland 2006), Alois Pollmann (Germany 2008) and Michael Whitaker (Great Britain 2009).
