The ‘great dressage week’ in Saumur turned out to be a great dressage week for French rider Julia Chevanne Gimel (31). She won two classes. Julia Chevanne started to compete at Grand Prix level at the age of 21. Her German trainers Georges Fincke and Jean Bemelmans were a great help. Saumur must be a lucky place for the Paris-born Julia. Four years ago in Saumur she became French national champion dressage aboard Calimucho.
The next year, 2004, she was a member of the French team that won the Nations Cup in Saumur and she competed in Athens Olympics. This year she convinced the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special juries in Saumur. “The pair looks like a fresh and young starting combination. This horse showed no weaknesses in Saumur and was especially convincing in piaffe and passage”, Dutch judge Wim Ernes said. However Julia was in the French team at the EC in Turin. But at that time the pair was not as strong as in Saumur. Saumur definitely is her lucky venue!
TRAGIC ACCIDENT PARODIE VAN DER WATERINGHOEVE
Odile van Doorn's Grand Prix team horse Parodie van der Wateringhoeve fractured a hind leg in the stables of the French National Equestrian Academy in Saumur an had to be put down. Parodie van de Wateringhoeve was a 15-year old Belgian warmblood mare sired by Donnerhall x Wendekreis. In 2002, Odile and Parodie won the French national championship in Saumur. Their last big show was the EC in Turin.
